Beaumaris Gaol
  1. The gaol is Victorian
  2. It was built by Hansom (famous for the Hansom Cab) in 1829
  3. The Tread Wheel in the gaol is special because it is the only original tread wheel still in position in the whole of Britain
  4. The hanging gibbet is still fixed to the wall
  5. In 1830 William Griffith was hanged for the attempted murder of one of his two wives
  6. In 1840 Gaynor Jones was jailed for one month's hard labour for stealing a quart of milk
  7. 1862 Richard Rowlands was the last man hanged in Beaumaris Gaol for the murder of his father in law
  8. The Goal became a police station in 1878
  9. The gaol is said to be haunted
  10. The term ‘Turnkey’ is the name given to the gaoler/person in charge of the keys to the cells
